New Daily Activities

What new daily activities have you started or are learning since quarantine started?

  1. During this quarantine, I have been spending most of my time doing homework. My work load hasn't really changed since school, in fact it might even be less than school, but I am having a very hard time paying attention. Because of that, I have decided to try to spend more time outside to take some breaks. The weather has been relatively nice lately and that's been so exciting! It makes me so excited for summer, so I hope that this virus is gone by then.

Each day when I go outside, I have been taking walks. I used to do that with my family all the time when we were kids, and it is kind of nice to be doing again. We take the dogs and they love it too. I actually can't remember the last time we did that before this quarantine, which is kind of sad. I hope that this becomes a regular thing still once this quarantine is over. I've found if very interesting how many people are outside on walks though lately. I mean there isn't much else to do, so I guess it's not very surprising, but it is very neat to see. It's refreshing. I have seen a lot of my neighbors outside lately, and to be honest, I don't think I ever really see them.

When school is all done, which is soon, I am hoping to start reading again. I have always really enjoyed doing that, but with how busy I always am I feel like I haven't really had the time to do it in a long time. If I do, it takes me forever to finish the book, and by the time I reach the end, I don't even remember what happened in the beginning. My mom always buys me books that she thinks I will be interested in, and right now I have quite the collection of ones that I have yet to read. Hopefully I can get on that soon!

  2. I have been going on bike rides a lot more since this quarantine started. We have two trails near where I live, and it's been really fun to get out on them. Occasionally I will ride with a friend, but don't worry, we make sure to stay six feet apart. I have really enjoyed doing this because initially, I sat around the house and did a whole lot of nothing. My parents kept emphasizing that it is important to get up and do things, and exercise is really important, especially during a time like this. So I took their advice, and went out for a ride and have continue to do so a few times a week.
It's been really nice to see people too. It is difficult to have a conversation from six feet away sometimes, but it's way better than only being able to talk on the phone through social media. Being able to catch up has been really nice, especially since we have all been at different schools for the past couple of months. We recently created a zoom for us all to meet up on and talk once a week. We all agree that we can not wait for this thing to be over. It's crazy how much you miss all these things you took for granted well all of a sudden you can no longer do those things.
Like one of my friends had a birthday the other day, and we couldn't even celebrate like we had planned. Instead, we had to get creative, and we all drove by her house with signs and stuff. It was cool, but it definitely made me realize how much I miss my friends.

    1. I really like that people are getting creative during this time! My friends and I have also been doing video calls and it has been a pleasant experience. It is better than texting that's for sure! I love being able to see everyone's faces and hear everyone's voices while we are catching up. The birthday drive by is super cool too! I have been seeing stuff like that all over social media lately, and my sister's friends actually did that the other day. It was really cool to be a part of. Everyone had signs and was playing music or honking their horns. It was awesome to see people come together (yet keep their distance) to do something special to still celebrate someone's birthday!

  3. Something that I have been trying out is yoga. I have done it a few times prior to this, but I have never really gotten into it. I figured since I have so much extra time on my hands, I should at least try to workout more. I’m not a big fan of working out though and a lot of my friends do yoga and always talk about how much they liked it. I figured the worst that could happen is I don’t like it and find something else to do instead, so I gave it a try. So far, I am actually really liking it. I’m not the most flexible person or anything, so it has been a bit of an adjustment, but I am getting used to it. I am thinking that I will continue to do this after quarantine and actually stick to my word this time.

  4. During this time I’ve been getting into self care. Taking care of my skin and body, which I’m learning is really important. Now is the time for me to start because it’s not like I’m being rushed to be somewhere, I just have the time now to develop healthy habits.

  5. I have been trying to workout a lot more and to try to be healthy. It's really easy to kind of slip on those things during a time like this, but I have so much time on my hands, and therefore, I have really tried hard to focus on that. It is something that I always try to do, but at times I find myself too busy to get around to it, so this time has been nice for that at least. I know they have been saying that it is really important to follow your usual routines, so I have been trying to do that and to really really focus on this specific part.
At times this has been difficult because it seems like I really don't have that motivation. However, there has been some nice weather some days, and that gets me going sometimes. I figure might as well take advantage of it while I can!
